The Quran, the blessed word of Allah in its wording, meaning, and style, is the sole divine message addressing all of humanity. In this respect, it encompasses almost every issue concerning human beings within an unshakable unity. We attempt to comprehend it only within our own limitations, and these efforts always remain limited in the face of the Quran’s immensity. For the knowledge of the Quran is the manifestation of the knowledge of Allah—the First, the Last, the Manifest, and the Hidden—and as such, it is an all-encompassing knowledge. Just as this encompassing knowledge is observed in the meaning of the Quran, it also manifests as a unique miracle in its wording and style. Whichever aspect of the Quran we approach, we feel that we are before an unfathomable ocean that surrounds us from every angle.

As Respect Quran School, we are acutely aware that the Quran is an inexhaustible source of knowledge and wisdom. Therefore, we regard our school as the foundational steps of every believer’s lifelong journey with the Quran. Our objective is to operate with an educational philosophy that allows the student to experience the Quran directly—primarily through its wording, and partially through its meaning—without any barriers between the Quran and its addressee. In essence, our goal is to enable the student to personally relish the Quran firsthand.

We can articulate the educational philosophy and objectives of the Respect Quran School through the following principles:

  • Facilitating the learning of the Quran to remove the barriers between the Quran and its addressee.

  • Making learning applicable to daily life and permanent.

  • Drawing attention to the unshakable perfection of the Quran by articulating its underlying wisdom during the educational process.

  • Offering a comprehensive program that goes beyond merely the wording of the Quran, taking into account the mental and physical health benefits of reading, understanding, listening, and memorizing it.

  • Consequently, fostering a love for the Quran to transform the student’s relationship with it into a lifelong bond.

We plan to realize these fundamental principles and objectives using the following techniques:

1. Facilitating the Tajweed teaching-learning process utilizing statistical methods: Based on our statistical analyses, we observed that the rules of tanween, sakin nun, and elongation constitute more than 80% of all Tajweed rules on any given page of the Quran. Accordingly, we prioritized these topics as the first to be learned. Our teaching experience has shown that students learning Tajweed through this method make easy and rapid progress, which in turn increases their motivation and enthusiasm. We have distributed the remaining Tajweed topics across our school’s four semesters using supplementary activities and individualized tracking.

2. Facilitating the learning of articulation points (makharij) and characteristics of letters through statistical methods: Through statistical analyses, we determined that 80% or more of the words on any page of the Quran consist of throat letters. Therefore, we prioritized and allocated the most weight in our program to teaching the articulation points and characteristics of these specific letters. In addition, we developed customized teaching techniques tailored to individual pronunciation difficulties to make students’ articulation more accurate and effective. Our research in this area is ongoing, and we aim to transform these studies into an AI-based application.

3. Prioritizing the requirements of daily worship in Quranic education content: Since the Quran is the word of Allah not only in its meaning but also in its wording, it constitutes the language we must use in our daily worship. Taking this practical aspect into consideration, our program prioritizes teaching both the surahs recited in daily prayers and the glorifications (tasbih, tahmid, supplications, and salawat) used in everyday worship.

4. Close monitoring to ensure continuity in reading (tilawah): We maintain online groups where we monitor our students’ recitations through a daily reporting system. Is it possible to regularly read and report 10 pages of the Quran every day for 3 years? Our experience thus far has shown that it is indeed possible. At Respect Quran School, we facilitate these seemingly difficult objectives through an established close-tracking system.

5. Sharing the wisdom of Quranic recitation with students: We believe that, especially in today’s world, it is ineffective to educate our youth using a traditionally authoritarian approach without explaining the benefits of the education they receive. We believe in the importance of sharing the practical and spiritual benefits of Quranic recitation. To this end, we plan to persuade our students of the significance of their work through brief, periodic insights throughout the program.

6. Coaching system: We appoint experienced young individuals who have graduated from our previous courses as coaches to monitor weekly memorization and assignments. The students in this year’s program are candidates to become next season’s coaches. Thus, Respect Quran School paves the way for its students to teach what they have learned. Through this, students simultaneously attain the glad tidings of the Prophet (PBUH) of being “the best among you” in two respects: learning and teaching.

7. Maqam (melodic recitation) training: It is widely known that Quran memorizers (hafiz) and frequent readers have lower rates of contracting memory-related diseases like Alzheimer’s. The psychological and neurological literature is full of research on this topic. Western studies have identified the positive cognitive effects that melodies and musical notes learned during youth have on the elderly. This aligns with the practices of reading, listening to, and memorizing the Quran with maqam. Recent studies show that listening to the Quran for 15-18 minutes daily improves mental health scores and reduces anxiety. Respect Quran School will provide significant cognitive and psychological benefits to its students through maqam lessons guided by highly qualified instructors.

8. Memorization training: Our educational program places special emphasis on memorization. In our own studies, we have found that students who memorize regularly experience a significant reduction in attention deficit issues, develop a better ability to focus on and complete tasks, and show a marked increase in self-confidence and academic success. Furthermore, research indicates a strong linear relationship between Quran memorization and reduced risks of hypertension, diabetes, and depression. This suggests that those who memorize larger portions of the Quran are less likely to suffer from these chronic conditions, highlighting the tangible health benefits of the practice.
